So yeah. Seems Deerhunter are embarking on a large-ish tour of the Euro-America this weekend, with Cate Le Bon supporting at London, Bristol, Manchester and Birmingham shows. (You may recall that Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox and Cate Le Bon worked together on a 7-track EP which just came out via Mexican Summer.)
But seeing as how A) it’s been almost a year since Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared appeared via 4AD, and B) you and I are stuck here in lousy Regular-America this month, the band has mercifully thrown us the bone by releasing a new track, the nearly 13-minute “Timebends,” all-up-over the internet. (That’s, like, appreciably longer than Fog Hat’s “Slowride,” by the way.)
This “partly improvised stream-of-consciousness outpouring” was recorded in a single, semi-improvised session back on September 12 and is being EMPHATICALLY publicized as having been recorded “live direct to tape and in one take with minimal overdubs and mastered using a completely analogue signal chain.” So, if that sorta shit impresses you, then clear your (presumably analogue) calendar; because you’re gonna be busy for a little while.
Check out the video for “Timebends” (directed by Cox) below, followed by the list of those European dates I started talking about earlier, before shit got all avant-garde back there like WHOA.
